A kennel attendant is someone who takes care of animals in shelters and veterinary centers. They are also known as kennel assistants.

Job Description

We are looking for a caring and responsible kennel attendant to take care of the animals in our facility. This includes cleaning cages, giving medication, and providing food and water. You will also need to inform the veterinarian if an animal is not doing well.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to anticipate and meet the needs of animals. A great kennel attendant will be able to provide tailored care for animals with different physical, emotional, and behavioral needs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transporting animals to and from their kennels
  • Making sure animals have enough food and water at all times
  • Cleaning and sanitizing cages
  • Disposing of trash regularly
  • Grooming, playing with, and giving treatment to animals under the direction of a veterinarian
  • Accompanying animals on walks, if needed
  • Calmly handling distressed animals
  • Adjusting temperature to keep animals comfortable
  • Reporting any significant changes in an animal's health to the veterinarian or on-duty medical professional
  • Evacuating all animals in case of an emergency

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience caring for animals is a plus
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • A passion for animal welfare
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
