Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Bringing the deceased to the funeral home.
- Preparing the viewing or service area by cleaning, setting up chairs and lights, and arranging flowers.
- Guiding and assisting guests as they arrive for the funeral.
- Respecting the wishes of the bereaved family.
- Driving the hearse to the cemetery, chapel, or funeral home.
- Supervising the opening and closing of the grave.
- Securing burial permits and registering deaths with the state.
- Managing funeral home finances, including receiving payments and keeping track of expenses.
- Helping families with paperwork, such as insurance claims.
- Cleaning funeral equipment.
Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- In-depth knowledge of religious, cultural, and customs related to funerals.
- Ability to lift at least 75 pounds.
- Valid driver's license.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and be available on call.
