Job Description
We are seeking a qualified forensic science technician to join our team. In this role, you will work with law enforcement to collect and analyze physical evidence from crime scenes. You will also be responsible for testifying as an expert witness in court.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Collecting and analyzing physical evidence in a laboratory setting
- Visiting and assessing crime scenes, and gathering biological and non-biological samples
- Handling hazardous materials safely and ensuring the integrity of physical evidence
- Using standard laboratory equipment and scientific methods to process and analyze samples
- Accurately documenting and reporting findings
- Consulting with other experts, such as medical professionals or firearm experts, as needed
- Providing forensic reports to law enforcement in a timely manner
- Collaborating with law enforcement for further investigation of cases
- Assisting legal counsel and testifying in court as an expert witness
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in forensic sciences, biology, chemistry, or a related field
- Previous experience as a forensic science technician is preferred
- Experience in evidence collection and processing in a law enforcement agency
- Advanced knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, laboratory equipment, and scientific methods
- Demonstrable experience in DNA analysis, blood-spatter pattern interpretation, and ballistic testing
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills
