Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated and observant flagger to help monitor traffic around road construction sites. Your job will be to inform drivers of any detours, report any unsafe drivers to the police, and answer any questions they may have. You will also need to make sure that emergency vehicles can safely pass through the construction zone.
To be a successful flagger, you should be a good communicator and able to work well with others. You should also have a good understanding of traffic laws and be very observant.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Use hand signals and signs to direct traffic around construction sites.
- Use a hand-held radio to communicate with other flaggers and direct traffic.
- Inform the construction crew of any traffic issues that could be dangerous for them.
- Place warning signs and detour signs in the correct locations.
- Set up barricades and traffic cones to keep certain areas blocked off.
- Remove all signs, barricades, and traffic cones when the construction is finished.
- Help the construction crew clean up any debris or hazardous materials.
- Record the license plate numbers of drivers who don't follow traffic signs or directions.
Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification from the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA).
- Experience working as a flagger.
- Good understanding of traffic laws.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
