Job Description

We are looking for a creative film makeup artist to apply makeup to the actors on a film set. This involves working closely with the director and costume designers to create sketches of the actors' makeup. You will also need to estimate the time required for makeup application and communicate this to the actors in advance.

To be successful in this role, you should be creative, enjoy experimenting with different makeup ideas and materials, and have a good eye for color. A top-notch film makeup artist should be able to create a variety of looks for different genres and time periods.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meet with the director, costume designer, and hairstylists to discuss the character descriptions and makeup needs.
  • Create sketches of makeup looks for each actor.
  • Inform the production team about the makeup products and tools needed.
  • Estimate the time needed for makeup application and inform the director and actors.
  • Apply long-lasting makeup and be available for touch-ups throughout filming.
  • Create special effects using latex masks and prosthetics.
  • Ensure consistency in makeup looks for each actor throughout filming.
  • Assist actors in removing makeup and prosthetics at the end of the day.
  • Safely store makeup tools and products.
  • Sterilize makeup tools daily.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • An associate?s degree or certificate in cosmetology from a technical school or college (required in some states).
  • A cosmetology license.
  • 1000-2000 hours of cosmetology practice, which typically takes 1-2 years to complete.
  • Excellent knowledge of makeup products, techniques, and technologies.
  • A portfolio showcasing your work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina to withstand long hours on your feet.
