Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyzing current operations, crops, livestock, staff, and financial records to suggest improvements
- Creating plans and schedules for planting and harvesting and ensuring staff understands expectations
- Visiting different areas of the farm to inspect crops and livestock and conduct soil and water tests
- Ensuring supplies like seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides are regularly restocked
- Scheduling equipment and machinery repairs, maintenance, and replacements
- Managing the marketing and sale of farm products such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, and grains
- Ensuring all staff follows health and safety regulations
- Assisting with recruiting and training new staff members
- Collaborating with senior staff to create budgets and financial reports
- Building professional networks and staying updated on advancements in agricultural science
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in agriculture, animal science, or a related field
- Additional courses in business management or administration are recommended
- Prior experience in a farming-related role
- Previous management experience is a plus
- A passion for agriculture
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- The ability to make decisions in high-pressure situations
