What does a Desktop Support Technician do?
A desktop support technician is a person who helps maintain computer systems and provides assistance to people who are having IT difficulties. They may work remotely or in person and are also known as help desk technicians.
Job Description
We are looking for a desktop support technician who is focused on finding solutions to help our employees. This person will be responsible for addressing IT-related concerns, diagnosing and resolving issues, and ensuring regular maintenance of our IT infrastructure.
In order to be successful in this role, you should be highly skilled in setting up and maintaining computers and networks. A good desktop support technician will assess each individual's computer skills and tailor their assistance accordingly.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Helping staff with their IT-related questions and offering suggestions for how to handle them.
- Documenting and keeping track of support requests.
- Determining the best ways to provide assistance.
- Providing IT support when requested or as needed.
- Setting up new computers, routers, modems, and other devices.
- Performing routine maintenance on existing systems.
- Updating computer operating systems and important software as necessary.
- Assessing requests for new hardware and software and recommending upgrades if needed.
- Providing recommendations for appropriate training for staff.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a computer-related field.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Previous experience as a desktop support technician or similar role.
- Familiarity with the functions of TeamViewer.
- Able to provide both in-person and remote IT support.
- Excellent skills in installation, diagnosis, upgrades, and repairs.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Good time management skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Patient, flexible, and supportive.
