Job Description
We are seeking a skilled driver with a clean driving record to join our team as an ambulance driver. The responsibilities of this role include safely driving the ambulance to emergency locations, transporting emergency personnel, transporting patients, and helping to move patients onto the ambulance stretcher.
To be successful as an ambulance driver, you should have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. It is important to be able to handle pressure well and have compassion when assisting patients.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect the ambulance before each shift, checking the fuel, oil, transmission fluid, wiper fluid, and coolant, and reporting any necessary repairs.
- Check the first aid and medical supply levels before each shift and make sure the ambulance is well-stocked.
- Assist patients onto gurneys and load them into the ambulance.
- Drive the ambulance as quickly and safely as possible to transport patients to the hospital.
- Provide first aid or administer oxygen if needed before reaching the hospital.
- Sanitize the ambulance and properly dispose of any medical waste or soiled linens.
- Maintain a driving log with daily entries, including patients' names and addresses, travel times, mileage, and services provided.
- Report accident details to medical personnel and police officers when necessary.
Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license.
- At least two years of experience as an EMT and driving experience.
- First aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of radio transmission codes.
- Emergency vehicle operator certification is a plus.
- Excellent defensive driving skills and the ability to read a map.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and comfort frightened patients.
