What does a Aerospace Engineer do?
An aerospace engineer is someone who designs, tests, repairs, and improves airplanes and spacecraft. There are two types of aerospace engineers - aeronautical engineers who focus on designing airplanes, and astronautical engineers who focus on designing spacecraft.
Job Description
We are looking for an analytical and knowledgeable aerospace engineer to join our team. Your responsibilities will include designing new aircraft and spacecraft, testing materials and prototypes, investigating product failures, and developing new products and materials. You may also be involved in research and creating specialized production processes.
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong understanding of mechanics, science, math, and computers. You should also be detail-oriented, creative, and have good communication skills.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Use math and science to design and improve aircraft and spacecraft, as well as their components, materials, safety regulations, and manufacturing processes
- Research and analyze information to solve problems and develop designs
- Test aircraft and spacecraft to identify and fix any potential issues and ensure they meet quality, safety, and functionality standards
- Design and assemble control panels, propulsion systems, guiding systems, computer systems, and other necessary parts and systems
- Improve production methods, facilities, and safety regulations
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure safety and efficiency in projects
- Create safety and quality standards, budgets, and timelines and make sure projects follow them
- Write technical documents such as design proposals, reports, and manuals
- Assist with special projects and provide technical advice
- Stay up-to-date on industry developments, technology, materials, trends, and regulations
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, with a preference for a Master's degree
- Professional Engineer license may be required
- Some positions may require a security clearance
- Experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of materials, math, science, thermodynamics, mechanics, robotics, aerodynamics, production methods, and potential safety and functionality issues and solutions
- Excellent research, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Exceptional communication, project management, and planning skills
- Proficiency with computers
- Ability to work within budgets and timelines
