Shelter House, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving families experiencing homelessness and victims of domestic violence in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties in Virginia. Since its formation in 1981, Shelter House has been a leader in providing comprehensive and compassionate services to those in need. Our organization strives to empower families and individuals to overcome their circumstances and achieve long-term stability.
Shelter House's commitment to the community began with the collaborative efforts of several ecumenical groups in Fairfax County. Through their dedication and hard work, Shelter House was able to establish a facility in Falls Church, which has served as a safe haven for families in need since 1985.
In 2007, Shelter House was awarded Fairfax County's contract to operate the Katherine K. Hanley Family Shelter in Fairfax. This partnership has allowed us to expand our reach and provide essential services to even more families in the community. Additionally, in 2010, Shelter House became the first non-profit to operate Artemis House, Fairfax County's only 24-hour domestic violence shelter. This has enabled us to provide a safe and secure environment for victims of domestic violence, while also offering comprehensive support services to help them rebuild their lives.
At Shelter House, we understand that homelessness and domestic violence are complex issues that require a multifaceted approach. That is why our programs and services go beyond just providing shelter. We offer a range of resources, including case management, counseling, life skills workshops, and employment assistance, to help our clients overcome the root causes of their struggles and achieve lasting stability.
Our organization is guided by a dedicated team of staff members and volunteers who are passionate about making a positive impact in the community. We also rely on the support of generous donors and community partners to continue our mission of providing hope and support to those in need.
In addition to our direct services, Shelter House also works to raise awareness about the issues of homelessness and domestic violence through education and advocacy efforts. We believe that by working together, we can create a community where everyone has access to safe and stable housing and can live free from violence and abuse.
Shelter House is more than just a shelter; it is a place where families and individuals can find hope, healing, and a path towards a brighter future. We are proud to serve our community and are committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.
