Job Description


MBI seeks a Temporary Senior Technical Director to support its ongoing infrastructure program activities and ensure projects currently awarded and under contract can be successfully completed within required timeframes. MBI has more than $100M in ARPA funds committed to infrastructure programs that must be completed by the end of calendar year 2026 and will soon have more than $30M in BEAD funds that will support infrastructure programs that must be completed by the end of calendar year 2029.

The Temporary Senior Technical Director will add capacity to the MBI Program Management Team in the review and evaluation of ongoing program timelines, milestone deliverables and reports, and in the ongoing engagement of ISP/MSP awardees to ensure programs are on track and will meet required completion deadlines. A key component of the Temporary Senior Technical Directors responsibilities will be to coordinate an infrastructure program master plan that will provide a full comprehensive overview of all MBI infrastructure activities.

The Temporary Senior Technical Director will also play a lead role in the oversight of the MAPC Apartment WiFi program currently funded by a Digital Equity Partnerships program grant. The Apartment WiFi Program is currently obligated to support over 1500 units of affordable housing across the state with free, no subscription, broadband. The program must have all projects completed by the end of June 2026.

The Temporary Senior Technical Director will play a supporting role in the development of future infrastructure programs. These programs could be related to community anchor institutions, wifi or mesh networks, or other innovative technologies that aim to close the digital divide.

The Temporary Senior Technical Director will report to the Director of Program Development.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop an infrastructure program master plan that aligns the timelines and activities required for completion between the four existing MBI infrastructure programs.
  2. Support MBI Program Managers with Temporary Senior Technical Directorise required to assess and evaluate milestone deliverables and progress statements.
  3. Support MBI leadership in coordinating engagement and coordination activities with subgrantees in the ISP/MSP industries.
  4. Play a direct oversight role of the MAPC Apartment WiFi Program to ensure successful program completion
  5. Support the development of future infrastructure programs.

Requirements

Education

  • 10 or more years of leadership experience in the telecommunications service provider industry.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with project management and oversight, specifically with businesses in the telecommunication industries.
  • Project planning, including understanding interdependencies between complex tasks, estimating realistic work and elapsed durations, optimizing the sequencing of work
  • High level of interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills required.
  • Ability to self-direct, prioritize, and time manage
  • Ability to think independently and strategically and make tactical decisions without direct support
  • Travel approximately 25% ( in-state) to locations often not accessible by public transportation.

PLEASE NOTE : THIS POSITION REQUIRES CANDIDATES TO BE ABLE TO WORK IN WESTBOROUGH OR BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS AT LEAST TWO DAYS PER WEEK. THIS IS NOT A FULL-TIME REMOTE POSITION.
