Senior Systems Administrator (Unix/ Linux)

First Division Consulting is seeking a Senior Unix/Linux Systems Administrator to support a Department of the Navy (DoN) customer in Dahlgren, VA . The selected candidate will play a key role in managing RDT&E (Research, Development, Test & Evaluation) environments , ensuring the functionality, security, and efficiency of Unix/Linux-based systems, networks, and software infrastructure .

The ideal candidate will have expertise in Unix/Linux system administration, backup and recovery, network security protocols, and troubleshooting techniques . This role involves hardware and software installations, security management, and resource allocation , requiring a strong understanding of firewalls, vulnerabilities, and advanced detection methods .

• Administer and maintain Unix/Linux systems to ensure reliability, security, and performance.
• Manage system backup and recovery processes to prevent data loss and ensure business continuity.
• Perform hardware and software installations, configurations, and updates for RDT&E environments.
• Oversee security management , including firewall configurations, network security tools, and vulnerability mitigation .
• Conduct troubleshooting, performance tuning, and resource allocation to optimize system functionality.
• Implement and monitor TCP/IP network protocols and security measures to protect sensitive information.
• Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to enhance system security and defense strategies.
• Maintain compliance with DoD security standards and system accreditation requirements .

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Six (6) years of professional experience in Unix/Linux system administration for networks and software systems .
• Experience in:
• System backup and recovery procedures.
• Basic software management and security management .
• Library management, resource allocation, and network troubleshooting .
• Installation and configuration of hardware, operational systems, and COTS software .
• Operating systems in different environments and performance tuning .
• Expertise in network protocols , including TCP/IP , and major network security tools .
• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity vulnerabilities, attack methods, and detection techniques .
• Active Top Secret (TS) clearance with SCI eligibility .
• One of the following IT certifications:
• CASP+ (CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner)
• CCNP Security (Cisco Certified Network Professional Security)
• CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting DoD or government RDT&E environments .
• Familiarity with Linux automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) .
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) .
• Experience with cloud-based Unix/Linux system administration .
