Senior/Staff Backend Engineer

Air is a Creative Ops System for creative teams. Our product automates the mindless tasks that creatives and marketers do every day to manage content and unlocks creativity through image recognition, automated versioning, and approval workflows. We launched in March 2021 and have raised +$70m from world-class venture capital groups including Avenir, Tiger Global, Headline Ventures, Lerer Hippeau, WndrCo, and Slack Ventures.

We're seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join our Apps & Integrations team.

You will be joining a motivated and enthusiastic team that is focused on disrupting this landscape. You'll be expected to hit the ground running, working hands-on with our backend codebase and desktop sync engine, which runs on thousands of client machines. You will build features, review code, write tests, maintain infrastructure, and help define a long-term architectural vision to keep us focused during rapid growth.

We work almost entirely in TypeScript. Our web app is built in React, desktop app in Electron, and backend in Node. We're built on AWS, so familiarity with their product suite is a major plus. Familiarity with major open-source and hosted AI providers will set you up for success in this role.

In this position, you will:

• Drive the architectural design and evolution of a highly-available public API to support critical integrations for enterprise clients
• Implement efficient data storage and retrieval strategies
• Design solutions with high availability and fault tolerance in mind
• Strive for quality and efficiency in all phases of the development lifecycle
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the company
• Identify bottlenecks and proposal solutions that can drive the company forward
• Mentor and help in the growth of junior members of the team
• Foster more and higher-level involvement across different parts of the product

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend experience working on large-scale distributed web applications
• Understands the nuances of API design with security and scalability in mind
• Capable of working on a stateful and event-driven client-side application
• Contextual insight around shifting QA and Security to the left
• Comfortable with event-driven and service-oriented architectures
• Experience driving complex architectural transformation from start to finish
• Deep understanding of cloud-based services from AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.
• Experience leading projects while balancing both business and technical constraints

If based in the US, the compensation range for this role is USD $146,000 to $264,000.

If based in Canada, the compensation range for this role is CAD $160,000 to $292,000.
