The Team

The Product Engineering team drives frontend and backend engineering, design, product, infrastructure, advertising, AI, safety, and observability. We are responsible for delivering experiences that help SmartNews live up to its name. Our product teams bring this experience to life across iOS, Android, and Web platforms .

What You'll Do

• Update, improve, transform, and deliver a modern news experience on iOS, Android, and the Web, both through individual contribution and collaborative work.
• Work with internal teams of engineers, designers, data scientists, and business, including many based outside of the United States.
• You are expected to rapidly iterate and learn in a fast-paced, collaborative, and international culture.

Requirements

Minimum requirements

• Proficient (5+ years) in frontend product development using React, React Native and/or TypeScript to build cross-platform mobile and/or web applications
• Proven experience and strong willingness to thrive in high-speed, rapid-prototyping environments
• Personal perspective about what makes products great while also valuing feedback and discussion from customers and teammates
• Self-motivated and results-driven, taking ownership and initiative to move projects forward effectively
• Comfortable navigating high degrees of ambiguity

Nice to have experiences/skills

• Experience building products that rely on AI, ML, ranking, and/or LLM prompt
• Prior experience in backend system development
• Demonstrated interests or experience in news or journalism
• Experience working in an international and multilingual environment

• Compensation range: $150,000 to $230,000 USD base salary, plus bonus and equity
