Senior Front End Engineer

Freddie's Flowers was founded by Freddie Garland in October 2014 with one ambition: to change people's relationship with flowers. We believe flowers aren't only for grand occasions, but they make every day special, inspiring creativity and sparking joy.

Our starting point was our direct-to-consumer subscription model, helping us grow a loyal UK following. We launched in Germany in 2020, and then in 2021 we secured significant backing from The Craftory, a like-minded purpose-led global investment house, helping us expand, develop and grow. 2023 saw us start our gifting service bringing the best of Freddie's Flowers to everyone who needs it (even last minute!).

From the seed of an idea we continue to flourish; we're now a B Corp organisation, certified Carbon Neutral (by the Carbon Trust). And our founding mission remains unchanged to change the world of flowers, and to change the worldwithflowers.

About The Role:

As a Senior Front End Engineer, you'll play a key role in developing the front-end aspects of our e-commerce platform, focusing on creating seamless, engaging user experiences. You'll leverage your expertise in modern JavaScript frameworks, server-side rendering, and static site generation to build responsive, high-performance web applications. Your work will directly impact our customer's interaction with our brand, making it crucial to our success.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Develop and maintain advanced front-end features for our e-commerce platform, ensuring code is optimised for performance, scalability, and user experience.
• Utilise ReactJs, NextJS, and modern JavaScript to implement responsive design and enhance application functionality, keeping user engagement at the core.
• Apply knowledge of server-side rendering (SSR) and static site generation (SSG) to maximise website performance and SEO ranking.
• Apply a product-thinking mindset to evaluate how front-end choices impact the overall user experience and business objectives.
• Collaborate with the design team to implement a cohesive visual experience across our digital platforms, utilising Storybook to maintain a consistent and reusable component library.
• Lead front-end deployment strategies, ensuring applications are robust, secure, and scalable across various platforms and devices.
• Advocate for front-end best practices, including automated testing, code reviews, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) workflows.
• Mentor junior developers, sharing knowledge and practices to uplift the team's technical capabilities.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in frontend development
• Computer science engineering background
• Strong experience with front-end development, particularly in ReactJs, NextJS, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+) and building RESTful APIs.
• Expertise in server-side rendering (SSR) and static site generation (SSG), with a proven track record of improving web application performance and SEO.
• Demonstrated ability in deploying front-end applications, with familiarity in cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, and serverless hosting environments.
• Proficiency in using Storybook or similar tools for developing and documenting design components, ensuring design consistency and rapid development.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach challenges holistically, considering technical, user, and business perspectives.
• Solid understanding of web accessibility standards, security principles, and the latest front-end development trends.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of effective teamwork in cross-functional environments.
• A passion for mentoring and uplifting team capabilities through knowledge sharing and best practices.
