Job Description

Based on an aggregation format, The Week distills and rewrites news, opinion, and ideas from the U.S. and international media to provide readers with "all they need to know about everything that matters." The magazine's coverage is broad, encompassing domestic and international news, politics, global commentary, and the latest developments in science, business, technology, arts, culture, and leisure.

What you'll do

Our writer and editors survey a variety of sources to help determine the topics we write about each week, and turn large files of original news stories and commentaries into thoughtful, succinct, lively summaries for our busy readers. The emphasis is on making sense of the news by blending and contrasting the opinions of a variety of columnists from the left, right, and center.

  • Assess the important news of the week in politics and culture to find the most important and engaging stories
  • Sift, blend, and contrast the opinions of columnists from the left, right, and center to help readers make sense of the news
  • Write several articles for every issue in a format that values compression, clarity, wit, and brevity
  • Explain the news in a way that gives busy readers "all they need to know about everything that matters" with a emphasis on accuracy and non-partisanship
  • Participate in the entire news team's planning of how to cover the news
  • Meet tight deadlines in a news organization
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve
  • A track record in news journalism to the highest standard
  • The ability to work at pace with appropriate sector knowledge and authority
  • The ability to follow tight deadlines
  • Understanding of our values
  • Excellent discipline and collaboration
What's in it for you

The expected range for this role is $70,000 - $75,000

Plus more great benefits and perks, which include;

  • Uncapped leave, because we trust you to manage your workload and time
  • When we hit our targets, enjoy a share of our profits with a bonus
  • Refer a friend and get rewarded when they join Future
