POSITION OVERVIEW

The Routing & Account Director, Houston is a highly organized and customer-focused individual who will lead key aspects of our partnership with Houston Independent School District, one of the largest school systems in the country. This person will serve as the primary relationship owner and strategic partner for our routing work with HISD, responsible for the successful execution of 4MATIV's routing and related services and providing a high level of service throughout the contract lifecycle.

The Routing & Account Director will lead a team of routers and be responsible for overseeing and executing routing for all of HISD's daily home-to-school transportation. The ideal candidate is a former transportation director or senior transportation leader within a school district or charter management organization, bringing strong account leadership, deep knowledge of school transportation operations, hands-on routing expertise, and proven success managing school transportation systems. This role requires a strong project manager who thrives in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, and is passionate about delivering high-quality, student-centered service.

LOCATION

• Remote, with frequent travel to Houston, TX (especially ahead of and through the start of the school year)
• Preferred: Houston, TX, with weekly in-person responsibilities at HISD's Northwest terminal office site (1-2 days per week).

RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Leadership & Relationship Management

• Serve as the primary point of contact for all routing activities and strategic partner to HISD transportation leadership, alongside 4MATIV's CEO and Chief of Client Services.
• Manage day-to-day communications and maintain clear, responsive support throughout the contract lifecycle.
• Build trust through consistent delivery, transparent updates, and proactive service.
• Lead ongoing performance reporting to stakeholders; coordinate with and support 4MATIV's Client Services team who will be engaged at a strategic level with the transportation department.
  

Team Leadership & Routing Oversight

• Lead and support a team of routers responsible for designing, adjusting, and managing daily home-to-school routes for HISD's transportation services.
• Coach, support, and develop a small team of school transportation routers, including training, performance management, and fostering a strong, healthy team culture.
• Coordinate with two in-house HISD routing staff in order to problem-solve and ensure smooth delivery of services. These staff will serve as cross-functional liaisons with other HISD departments, ensuring the 4MATIV team has clear design parameters and requirements and can expeditiously route students in alignment with district policies.
• Support the smooth implementation and adoption of a new routing and dispatch platform in close collaboration with district staff, 4MATIV teams, and the new system provider.
• Ensure routes are optimized for efficiency, equity, and safety, and updated based on evolving district needs.
• Roll up your sleeves to do hands-on routing workparticularly during start-up periods and peak timesensuring precision and zero-error execution while adding capacity to help the team meet deadlines and deliver high-quality service.
  

Service Execution & Operational Excellence

• Ensure all commitments are met with the highest level of quality and care, including monitoring and meeting district-set routing performance targets
• Identify challenges, coordinate internal and external problem-solving efforts, and , and drive continuous improvement in service delivery.
• Ensure alignment across internal 4MATIV teams to deliver seamless support to HISD. This will include coordination with our Client Services Team and the CEO on data, performance management, strategy, and implementation of the new transit management and Parent Pay solutions.

Contract Retention & Business Development

• Ensure successful contract renewal by delivering consistently high-quality service and maintaining strong, trusted relationships with district stakeholders.
• Identify and drive opportunities to expand 4MATIV's services within Houston and across surrounding markets, taking action to grow impact, deepen partnerships, and extend service offerings.

GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES

This is a high impact, high-visibility role uniquely positioned for growth within a rapidly expanding company. Due to the size and importance of the HISD partnership, the Routing & Account Director reports directly to the CEO and will play a central role in one of 4MATIV's most cross-functional and ambitious initiatives.

As 4MATIV grows, a candidate who is successful in this role will be positioned for growth within several potential tracks, including but not limited to: growth supporting more functions within the HISD contract, within 4MATIV's routing team, on other 4MATIV client services or analytical projects, or on 4MATIV's account services team.

Requirements

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree
• 5+ years of experience in operations, account management, or customer success ideally in school transportation or operations.
• 2-3 years of experience in transportation, logistics or routing; must have direct school transportation routing experience.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects from planning through execution, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met
• Experience leading a team to deliver strong, measurable results.
• Proficiency with school routing software, especially EZ Routing, is a plus.
• Experience working with schools and/or school districts is preferred.
• Strong technical skills, including experience with data management and spreadsheet tools (Excel, Google Sheets, etc).
