Registered Dental Hygienist

We are seeking a Dental Hygienist to join our growing, privately owned, group practice. As a Dental Hygienist at Commonwealth Dentistry, you will have the opportunity to work with a staff that goes above and beyond to support each other and deliver an unsurpassed dental experience for our patients.

A Dental Hygienist is responsible for promoting dental health by completing dental prophylaxis, providing oral cancer screenings, periodontal maintenance, charting dental solutions, willingness to assist with a variety of responsibilities in the dental office.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

• Patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting and taking blood pressure and pulse
• Taking dental radiographs (x-rays)
• Removing calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth
• Applying preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides)
• Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)

• Counseling patients about good nutrition and its impact on oral health
• Making impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs)
• Performing documentation and office management activities

• Minimum of an Associates degree in Dental Hygiene, Bachelor's degree a plus

• Valid VA Dental Hygienist license

• CPR Certification
