Job Summary

The Mapleton Foundry is one of the largest in the United States and home to the largest core making machine in the world! Working at the foundry is hard work that demands focus and safety, quality, and commitment to helping our customers build a better world.

The Large Power Systems Division currently has an opening for a Quality Engineer 2 located in Mapleton, IL. As a Quality Engineer 2 you will have the primary purpose of conducting investigations and analysis which contribute to the development and implementation of methods, procedures, and equipment that ensure quality standards for parts and prime products. The Quality Engineer will provide technical support for foundry products by leading quality development and certification of processes, cost reductions, production quality problems resolution, and warranty reduction.

Responsibilities

Work with employees from multiple departments to improve quality practices in their processes using daily coaching, tracking CQI projects & Scorecard.

Implement the Idea Generation Process and Corrective and Preventive Action processes by clarifying and verifying all ideas with related persons and spot check, explain the validation reasons, and encourage to make contributions to achieve zero defect in operations.

Coordinate with engineering personnel on matters regarding Concurrent Product and Process Development, New Product Introduction, prove design to production, engineering changes and deviations, supplier designs, specification approvals, and meeting cost reduction goals.

Proactively develop quality related control methodologies and systems.

Support 5S/Lean Manufacturing/Class A and SAP and on-going support, to help area owners set up goals and integrate 5S/Lean Manufacturing practices with internal Quality Certification system through standardization and documentation.

Experience working in a foundry environment.

Skill You Will Have:

Quality Management : Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) : Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences.

Collaborating : Level Working Knowledge:

Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

Problem Solving : Level Working Knowledge:

Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Accuracy and Attention to Detail : Level Extensive Experience

Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

Flexibility and Adaptability : Level Working Knowledge

Knowledge of successful approaches and techniques for dealing with change; ability to adapt to a changing environment and be comfortable with change.

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $143,520.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
