Applied Materials? Research and Development department (Varian R&D) is searching for an intern to join our team in 2025! Our R&D department is working on state-of-the-art implantation tools which are the backbone of the semiconductor industry. Through novel engineering we are advancing processes such as doping, and material modification. The position will entail the following:

Assist with laboratory process demonstrations, including tool preparation, processing wafers, measuring wafers, analyzing results, and documentation. Some chemical handling is required.

Lead small development projects involving wafer processing and metrology, and present the results

Support process engineering through procurement, shipping, and inventory functions

Requirements

Preference for students in their final year in a Doctoral degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field

Available to work for 9 months

Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale

Quick learner. Hands-on and not afraid of building and dissembling things. Good communication skills. Well organized with attention to details.

Experience/knowledge in semiconductor processing or manufacturing a big plus

Compensation

$43 - $47 per hour

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on a number of factors including location and education level and will vary depending on confirmed job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
