Job Description


JCC Greater Boston is seeking a part-time Pool Lifeguard. This position would allow you to use your lifesaving skills while being a part of a dynamic team. JCC Greater Boston lifeguards keep members and guests safe, while creating a welcoming environment. Working a flexible schedule with opportunities year round, the Pool Lifeguard works at both our indoor and outdoor pools in the summer, shifting to indoors only the rest of the year. The Aquatics Team is a lively and fun group to work with. This is an onsite role in Newton.

This position will pay $20- $25/hr as a starting salary. Hours will range from 5-20 hours per week. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the hours the employee will work, the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity. Requirements

  • Ensure the safety of every pool patron through education and attentiveness
  • Set up and break down equipment
  • Enforce the rules and regulations of the pools consistently
  • Maintain good working relationships with staff members, maintenance personnel, and administrative personnel
  • Resolve member concerns in a professional manner or escalate them, as appropriate
  • Develop professional relationships with members
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and in-services
  • Support JCC goals and objectives
  • Other activities, as required by the organization

Qualifications of Indoor and Outdoor Pool Lifeguard

  • Is 16 years of age or older at the time of hire
  • Has good communications skills with children
  • Models a strong team player approach
  • Is committed to delivering quality customer service
  • Is highly dependable
  • Is personable and friendly
  • Is able and willing to follow directions from supervisors and follow protocols

Essential Functions of Indoor and Outdoor Pool Lifeguard

Is able to :

Cognitive

  • see, hear, and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding services
  • make safety-related decisions
  • communicate with community members and coworkers in person effectively, over email, and on the phone
  • read, write, understand, and speak English

Physical

  • work in a high temperature and high humidity environment for extended periods while wearing required personal protective equipment
  • lift up to 50 pounds
  • vision requirements include the ability to read routine and technical documents, use a computer, and answer a telephone
  • stand, walk, sit, stoop, and kneel frequently

JCC Greater Boston is a nonprofit organization with roots in earlier Settlement Houses and Young Men's Hebrew Associations; JCC Greater Boston today offers a wide range of services and program activities throughout the Greater Boston region (~50,000 individuals annually in 98 communities). The organization provides a variety of programs and services to children and adults in the Greater Boston Jewish community including preschools, day camps, a regional model of Jewish family engagement, a fully equipped fitness and aquatic center, arts and culture classes, performances, lectures, and Jewish holiday celebrations.
