Job Description


Summary:

The Specialized Default Team Lead at FirstBank is the team lead of the Specialty Lending legal department, which includes bankruptcy, legal processes, and loss mitigation. This person will drive internal department growth, performance, and best practices to maintain and support the Specialty Lending team. This leader must maintain a solid working knowledge of the legal department and position this department for growth as the business scales. The ability to coach, counsel, lead, and communicate are critical to this leader?s long-term success.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Department Support and Leadership (50%):
  • Provide departmental guidance for the team
  • Consider departmental needs for scalability
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Understanding of default mortgage servicing rules and regulations, judicial and non-judicial foreclosure, replevin, and bankruptcy processes
  • Review and preparation of bankruptcy/legal documents, attorney/trustee communication, and associated resolutions
  • Review of changes to legal customer notifications, business partner notifications, and other legal documentation as needed
  • Loan-related system research including research of payments, loan documents, and other related documentation
  • Handle escalated customer calls and special accounts
  • Interact with internal teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with internal teams and 3rd party partners
Personal and Team Development (30%)
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert for internal Specialty Lending projects
  • Share / spread knowledge with non-legal department associates
  • Identify departmental training needs
  • Coach and develop legal department associates
  • Identify areas for improvement in existing legal-related processes and procedures
Documentation (20%)
  • Ensure Specialty Lending legal processes are properly documented
  • Ensure all Specialty Lending legal department documentation is properly maintained and current
  • Design and produce appropriate metrics for increased reporting of Specialty Lending legal department metrics


Education & Experience:

  • 3-5 years of progressive legal department experience around topical areas of bankruptcy, legal, loss mitigation, and FDCPA-governed collections; 5-7 years of experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years' experience in the banking/finance/mortgage industry
  • Experience with Black Knight's MSP and supporting applications preferred
