Maintenance Painter

TheMaintenance Painter performs skilled painting work in the preparation,patching, finishing, and maintaining of interior and exterior surfaces (e.g.,wood, plaster, drywall, steel, concrete, piping insulation, and brick), on allHospital building structures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipmentfollowing recognized procedures and techniques of the painting trade and usingpaint brushes, rollers, and/or sprayers, sandpaper, sanders, steel wool, wirebrushes, and related painting tools. The Painter also practices preventivemaintenance of painting tools and equipment, and complies with federalregulations governing environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal andthe use of chemical substances and materials common to the painting trade.

Essential Duties:

• Performs skilled painting work inthe preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of all buildingstructures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipment by inspecting thework site to determine the materials, equipment, tools, and method to beused
• Following a plan, layout, sketch,or schematic for the project or an established color scheme; mixing andmatching pigments, stains or varnishes to the required color, tint and/ortexture
• Completes assigned paintingprojects with quality workmanship by preparing surfaces for painting usingsandpaper, power sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, scrappers, paintremovers and chemicals, filling nail holes, cracks, or joints with putty,plaster or other fillers
• Applying paints, stains,varnishes, enamel, or lacquer using paint brushes, rollers, and/orsprayers, and recommending the use of additional departmental personnel orcontract personnel (as appropriate) to meet assigned completion targets.
• Protects Hospital property andequipment from damage during painting work by removing furniture, wallfixtures, and equipment from work sites if possible or covering immoveableitems with protective cloths, covering floors with cloths or tarpaulins,taping woodwork, facings, and decorative trims, and erecting safescaffolding in a manner that prevents damage.
• Reduces the likelihood forliability regarding the Hospital's compliance with federal regulations bycomplying with policies, laws, and regulations governing environmentalprotection, safety, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of chemicalsubstances and materials common to painting.
• Practices preventive maintenanceof painting tools and equipment
• Upholds the Organization's ethicsand customer service standards.

Requirements

Education and/or Licensure High School diploma (or equivalent) preferred.

Experience At least 2 years year's successful experience in painting trade is required. Experience with installation of wall coverings is preferred.

Additional Requirements The scope of the job will require night, holiday, and/or weekend work to respond to emergencies.

• Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information orally and make fine discriminations in sound.
• Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Individual must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks, as well as inspect and analyze.
• Must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another
• While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside.
