Responsibilities:

For workers? compensation claims in assigned jurisdiction(s) with focus on claim resolution and avoiding unnecessary litigation expenses.


Key Functions will include but not be limited to:

  • Review and evaluate claims entering litigation for settlement and/or resolution
  • Prepare settlement evaluations
  • Coordinate necessary exchange of documentation with plaintiff?s counsel pre-mediation
  • Prepare for and attend mediations, both mandatory and voluntary
  • Coordinate preparation and review of settlement documentation
  • Keep abreast of all arising workers compensation case law, rules and regulations for jurisdiction(s) assigned
  • Recommend or assist in developing timely and effective plans for issue and claims resolution that may eliminate the need for counsel
  • Ensure evidence exists to support the legal position and litigation plan
  • Assist in the development of a counsel referral method that promotes effective outcomes and minimizes or controls litigation costs
  • When referral to panel counsel is necessary, ensure high quality service and effective resolution plan
  • General oversight of panel counsel in assigned jurisdictions
  • Timely notify supervisor of all legal issues and claims handling issues
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with claims staff, supervisors, providers and other departments within Key Risk
  • Demonstrate the use of tact and discretion in all communications
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree
  • Juris doctorate with active attorney license in Georgia and/or Florida
  • 5 plus years of experience in adjudicating workers compensation claims
  • Ability to research, learn, retain and accurately apply knowledge of Workers Compensation Act and rules/regulations in jurisdiction(s) assigned
  • Excellent oral and written communications
  • Possess analytical, critical thinking and strategic problem-solving skills
