Lathe Operator

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Lathe Operator! This position is in our PVC facility in Pineville, NC and reports to the Compound Supervisor.

We are seeking an energetic individual with a keen eye to detail and a positive demeanor. The successful candidate will focus on safety, quality and continuous improvement.

In this position you will operate and run machinery used to manufacture Frialen electro-fusion couplings on a CNC lathe per work instructions, applicable specifications and quality standards. You will conduct these activities while ensuring and improving safety, product quality, production output, housekeeping and cost control to achieve plant goals.

Principal Responsibilities

• Set up & operate the Friatec band saw and cut HDPE pipe to proper length for use in CNC lathe under limited supervision after saw is set up
• Ability to run couplings on lathe and make basic program adjustments to keep couplings within specifications; produce couplings at a standard pieces-per-hour rate.
• Utilize reading equipment and Friamat fusion processors for use during coupling quality inspection
• Perform dimension inspections on couplings using computerized measuring machine.
• Assist in lathe changeover under supervision.
• Perform changeovers on lathe in an acceptable period with limited supervision.
• Enter, modify and troubleshoot the lathe program and correct issues as they arise.
• Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• A high school degree or equivalent required with the ability to read, write and do basic math. Must be knowledgeable in imperial and metric measurement systems.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred; plastics experience is an asset.
• Previous experience using a bandsaw and lathe is preferred.
• Comfortable using hand tools and operating a forklift.
• Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be a self-starter with good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills coupled with an eagerness to learn.
• Good teammate with a demonstrated ability to contribute to and cultivate a positive team environment.
• Comply with all safety standards and 5S guidelines.
• Must be able to work 12-hour continental shifts (4 days on, 4 days off); 84 hours bi-weekly; 7:007:00).
• Must successfully pass a background check and drug screen

Working Conditions

• Requires good mobility and involves considerable routine walking, standing for long periods, bending, and heavy lifting up to a maximum of 50 lbs.
• Fast-paced environment where a considerable amount of sensory attention is required.
