Job Description

Job Duties / Responsibilities: The Japan Patent Specialist, under supervision of Firm Members and utilizing disciplines of Engineering Science, Technology and knowledge of Japanese Patent Practice will complete the following daily job duties: Provide consultation to clients on various IP Matters in including Inventions and Patent Process in Japan and ways IP can be protected under Japanese Laws; Manage and analyze IP cases and Patent Portfolios; Draft, prosecute Patent Applications for clients specializing, with focus in those in Japan; Assist in preparing Infringement and Validity Analyses; Conduct technical interview with U.S. and Japanese clients; Perform patent searches in Japan Patent Office; and Package patent cases for presentation before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Japanese Patent Office. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree (or US Equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Material Science and five (5) years experience with Japan Patent Law and applicant must be admitted to the Patent Office of Japan. Must have experience in providing legal opinions regarding Patent Non-Infringement and Patent unavailability in relation to Japan Patent Law; Drafting License Agreements and Confidentiality Agreements with regard to Japan Patent Law; Prosecuting Japan Patent, Trademark Application and Appeals before the Japan Patent Office. Applicant must be able to travel to Japan two (2) times per year. 40 hours per week. M-F: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States.
