International Trade Associate

Our International Trade group seeks an associate from the classes of 2023 or 2024 with one to two years of relevant experience to support all aspects of our practice. Experience in U.S. export controls, U.S. sanctions, trade remedies, trade policy, or customs and import controls is required. Stellar academic credentials required and private sector and/or government experience in international trade control laws is required.

We advise on the complex laws and regulations governing the export and re-export of goods and technology from the U.S. By conducting internal compliance audits and investigations, we help companies identify potential violations of export controls and economic sanctions programs, assess related liabilities, and develop mitigating and remedial measures and strategies. We are experienced in export classification and licensing, compliance and enforcement under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Because the responsibilities of this position will involve access to ITAR/EAR-controlled information, Akin will screen prospective job candidates to be staffed in this role and will only consider U.S. persons for ITAR/EAR compliance purposes. Under the definition of ITAR (? 120.62) and EAR (Part 772), a U.S. person is (1) a U.S. citizen, (2) a U.S. national; (3) a lawful permanent U.S. resident, (4) an individual admitted to the United States as a refugee, or (5) an individual granted asylum in the United States. Additionally, Akin will only staff such U.S. persons for this role if they are physically located in the United States.
