Responsibilities:
Receive, review, and process FOIA requests in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies
Conduct searches for responsive documents across various databases and information systems
Analyze responsive records to determine releasability, applying appropriate FOIA exemptions and redactions as necessary
Prepare and issue official correspondence to requesters, including acknowledgment letters, interim updates, and final determinations
Maintain detailed and organized records of FOIA requests and processing steps in FOIA tracking systems
Assist in drafting reports, summaries, and metrics for internal and external stakeholders, including annual FOIA reports
Stay current on FOIA-related case law, policy updates, and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement
Support appeals and litigation responses by gathering documentation and preparing records as required
Participate in training sessions and contribute to the development of FOIA program procedures and guidance materials
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline
Proven ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats
At least 1 year of experience processing FOIA requests (from intake to final response), or 3 years experience as a paralegal; 4+ years of FOIA experience preferred
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office software and Adobe Acrobat Pro for document management and collaboration
Keen attention to detail when reviewing documents for accuracy and compliance
Proficient in automated FOIA processing tools like FOIAXpress and eDiscovery software
Capable of managing multiple FOIA requests simultaneously and meeting deadlines
Skilled in tracking cases, documenting decisions, and maintaining accurate records
