Environmental Specialist

Industry: Specialty Chemicals / Manufacturing

Employment Type: Full-Time

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Environmental Engineer to lead and enhance environmental compliance, risk management, and sustainability initiatives at our specialty chemical manufacturing facility. This role is critical in ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including those related to air, water, and waste. The successful candidate will bring expertise in regulatory reporting, emissions calculations, and continuous improvement within a high-compliance industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance Leadership:
  • Develop and manage site-wide environmental policies, procedures, and environmental management systems to ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
  • Risk Assessment & CAPA:
  • Conduct detailed risk assessments to identify environmental hazards and implement targeted Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) plans.
  • Remediation & Technical Support:
  • Provide expert guidance on environmental remediation projects and serve as a technical resource to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Program Development & Site Partnership:
  • Collaborate with operations and site personnel to enhance environmental programs and foster a culture of compliance and proactive improvement.
  • Incident Management:
  • Lead investigations into environmental incidents, ensure proper reporting, and manage environmental KPIs and performance goals.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting:
  • Perform quality checks and analyze environmental data to support strategic decision-making and regulatory alignment.
  • Regulatory Reporting:
  • Prepare, review, and submit environmental compliance reports (air, water, and waste), ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Audits & Inspections:
  • Conduct internal environmental audits and support external audits to maintain compliance and drive best practices.
  • New Product Compliance:
  • Collaborate on New Product Introductions (NPIs) to ensure environmental compliance requirements are met throughout the process.
  • Training & Development:
  • Design and deliver training programs to enhance site-wide environmental competency and ensure ongoing compliance with evolving regulations.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of environmental experience in a specialty chemical manufacturing environment .
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Air regulations , including Title V permitting, NESHAP (MON) compliance, and VOC/HAP emissions calculations.
  • Water regulations , including NPDES , BOD/COD monitoring, and on-site wastewater treatment systems.
  • Waste compliance , including solid and hazardous waste management.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental reporting, regulatory submissions, and agency interface.
  • Familiarity with CAPA systems, audit protocols, and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
