Discovery Of Counsel / Partner - Los Angeles Discovery Of Counsel / Partner Location: Los Angeles Overview: Barnes & Thornburg LLP, an AmLaw 100 firm and nationally recognized for its work in Product Liability and Mass Tort litigation, is seeking an experienced and strategic Discovery Of Counsel or Partner to litigate discovery issues in complex, multijurisdictional cases. This role is suited for an attorney with significant discovery experience and deep knowledge of litigation and eDiscovery who thrives in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Responsibilities: Litigation & Discovery Strategy Lead discovery strategy in high-volume product liability and mass tort cases, including MDLs and coordinated state actions Manage and provide strategic guidance on data collection and advise on relevancy scoping Litigate discovery related issues and handle all aspects of discovery disputes, including motion practice and hearing attendance Work with clients to respond to discovery requests Prepare and defend corporate representative depositions and take fact depositions as needed Draft and negotiate discovery-related protocols, ESI orders, and data management plans Advise on eDiscovery, including drafting search terms and coding (including predictive coding) as well as best practices with respect to artificial intelligence (?AI?) Develop and implement defensible discovery workflows across multiple jurisdictions and phases of litigation Apply sophisticated understanding of privilege and work-product doctrines; supervise the creation of privilege logs Negotiate protective orders with opposing counsel Advise on complex privilege and confidentiality issues, including inadvertent disclosures and privilege waivers Maintain deep familiarity with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and state discovery rules relevant to Discovery and eDiscovery eDiscovery Technology Consult with the firm?s eDiscovery team on platforms including Relativity, using analytics tools (e.g., TAR, CAL, AI-assisted review) to streamline workflows and reduce costs Adapt eDiscovery platforms to serve complex client needs Possess knowledge of emerging technologies including AI-enabled legal workflows Qualifications: J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and admission in good standing to the bar of California is required Minimum 8 years of discovery and litigation experience, including at least 5 years in supervisory or leadership roles Experience with product liability and mass tort litigation preferred Proven success managing large-scale, multijurisdictional discovery projects, preferably in the mass tort or product liability space Experience litigating discovery matters and arguing motions in court Experience taking and defending corporate representative depositions Deep understanding of discovery law and eDiscovery technology, including technology-assisted review (TAR) and continuous active learning (CAL) Strong working knowledge of federal and state procedural rules governing discovery Effective communicator with excellent project management and leadership skills A proactive and collaborative mindset, with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and innovation Willingness to travel for case and team needs Salary: The base salary range for this position is $290,000 to $385,000 (commensurate with experience).
