As a Director, Origination, you'll have the chance to shape our risk strategies and contribute to our sustainable growth supporting our mission to safely deliver, own and operate high-quality and innovative renewable energy facilities.

The Director, Origination will lead efforts to market Urban Grid's solar and battery energy storage projects pipeline. This individual will drive customer engagement, negotiate and close complex commercial agreements, and develop tailored strategies that align with customer goals and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing priorities under pressure.
  • Deliver revenue and margin goals for off-take agreements from development portfolios.
  • Negotiate and administer contracts, collaborating with Development, Finance, and Operations teams.
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate contract impacts/opportunities
  • Develop creative deal structures, including PPAs, storage products, clean capacity offerings
  • Build and maintain relationships with public/private utilities, municipalities, co-ops, C&I off-takers, and marketers.
  • Identify RFP opportunities and target bilateral PPAs outside formal processes.
  • Drive power marketing ideas to actionable deliverables (financial models, term sheets, contracts).
  • Provide deal structure recommendations for financing negotiations.
  • Lead contract negotiations with strategic commercial and risk management considerations.
  • Develop origination strategies for securing PPAs for solar and BESS assets.
  • Design innovative commercial solutions aligning customer needs with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to price and execute PPAs effectively.
  • Stay informed on power market trends, regulations, and customer strategies impacting solar and BESS projects.
  • Prepare proposals, pricing models, governance materials, and compelling presentations for stakeholders.
  • Represent the company at industry events and advocate for renewable energy solutions.
  • Mentor and develop origination analysts and managers to grow the origination platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or related field; advanced degree (MBA, Master's) preferred.
  • 810+ years in energy/renewables, with proven experience in power origination, structuring, pricing, and analyzing physical and financial PPAs across U.S. power markets.
  • Expertise in C&I customers, utilities, and markets (PJM, MISO, Southeast); deep knowledge of regulated and deregulated U.S. power markets.
  • Strong relationships and successful track record with utilities, co-ops, and large corporate customers, including PPA closures.
  • Experience with markets: ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, and bilateral markets.
  • Knowledge of OTC forward, physical, and future markets.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and negotiation skills with a collaborative, results-driven mindset.
  • Strong communication (written, presentation, public speaking) and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for innovative solutions driving a clean energy future.
  • Travel flexibility (~50%) for customer engagements, conferences, and internal meetings.

Location : Houston Office. The role may be hybrid / remote depending on the employee and manager arrangements..

Travel: 50% travel
