The Construction Manager is a pivotal role responsible for the overall planning, execution, and successful completion of construction projects within the Preservation department. This role demands a blend of leadership, technical expertise, and effective communication to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Construction Manager will also play a key role in fostering team accountability, managing the Work in Progress (WIP), and driving project efficiency.

Mission:

To lead and coordinate construction projects, ensuring timely, on-budget, and high-quality delivery through strong leadership, effective communication, and efficient production management for all stakeholders

Key responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Oversee all phases of construction projects, from pre-construction planning to closeout, ensuring alignment with company goals and client expectations.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of superintendents, engineers, and field personnel, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Safety and Quality: Champion a safety-first culture, implementing and enforcing safety protocols to protect workers and minimize risks. Ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Financial Management: Monitor project budgets, expenses, and profitability, implementing cost-control measures and maximizing resource utilization.
  • Client Relations: Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their needs, addressing concerns, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks related to field conditions, contracts, and project execution.
  • Subcontractor Management: Effectively manage subcontractor relationships, ensuring compliance with project specifications and timely delivery of work.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitor project performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • WIP Management: Oversee and optimize the Work in Progress (WIP) to ensure efficient project flow and resource allocation.
  • Project Efficiency: Continuously seek and implement strategies to improve project efficiency and productivity.
  • Team Accountability: Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable for their performance and contributions to project success.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering is preferred, but a minimum of 10-15 years of relevant construction experience will also be considered.
  • Leadership: 5-10 years of proven ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of construction practices, techniques, equipment, and materials.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with clients, subcontractors, team members, and other stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address challenges and make informed decisions.
  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of project budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting.
  • Safety Focus: Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to all safety regulations.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with project management software ( HCSS, Vista ) scheduling tools ( P6 or similar programs ) , and Microsoft Office Suite.
