Job Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain ? and we're looking for talented people who want to help.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

As a Civil Engineer, you will leverage your land development design experience to work directly with our Real Estate, Design and Construction teams in your region. You will play a pivotal role in delivering data center campus sites and serve as the engineering representative for the Design Engineering team, ensuring projects meet strict quality and performance standards.

The successful candidate will be a strong leader who can prioritize effectively, communicate clearly, and demonstrate a consistent track record of delivery. They should have the ability to solve problems creatively while maintaining high quality and customer focus. The role requires working collaboratively within a team and relying on others to accomplish tasks. This includes partnering with various internal Amazon groups as well as external consultants and developers.

Key job responsibilities

Communicate conceptual designs and create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction.

Develop and maintain design standards, design prototypes, and template specifications related to site design.

Coordinate with Due Diligence teams to determine site selection criteria and review Due Diligence reports.

Create, review, and release design RFPs.

Manage our external civil design consultants through the design and construction process.

Review designs for grading, storm water, utilities, and pavement.

Coordinate with internal and external Architecture, Structure and MEP design engineers.

Effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.

Manage multiple fast paced projects simultaneously.

Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability.

Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with authorities having jurisdiction. Anticipated travel is approximately 25%.

A day in the life

Given Amazon's global presence, 25% travel is required. This includes international travel to inspect and audit current and future data center sites. Collaboration with international teams is essential, and you may need to travel for workshops to develop schematic and detailed design documentation packages.
