About the Role

Midea America Corporation seeks an experienced Chief Litigation Counsel/ Senior Litigation Counsel to lead and resolve all litigation matters across North America, ensuring strategic, cost-effective outcomes. This senior role will oversee civil litigation in state and federal courts, while collaborating closely with Midea Group and its affiliates in China to align global legal strategies. Key focus areas include product liability, commercial disputes, regulatory investigations (e.g., CPSC), and trade-related litigation (e.g., ITC/DOJ). Fluency in Mandarin is a strong plus.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Litigation Management & Strategy:

- Serve as lead counsel for all civil litigation in state/federal courts, including pleadings, discovery, motions, and trial preparation.

- Develop and execute litigation strategies to minimize risk and maximize favorable resolutions.

- Represent Midea at hearings, mediations, and other legal proceedings.


2. Cross-Border Collaboration:

- Work closely with Midea Group's global legal team in China to ensure alignment on litigation risks, compliance, and dispute resolution.

- Advise on U.S. legal developments impacting Midea's global operations.


3. Regulatory & Compliance Support:

- Manage responses to regulatory inquiries (e.g., CPSC, FTC) and investigations.

- Partner with internal teams globally to mitigate risks related to product safety, labeling, and recalls.


4. Team Leadership & Operations:

- Oversee outside counsel, ensuring cost efficiency and high-quality representation.

- Mentor junior legal staff and foster accountability for deadlines and deliverables.


5. Legal Research & Advisory:

- Monitor changes in laws and legal trends affecting Midea's business.

- Provide proactive guidance to leadership on litigation risks and preventive measures.


Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; admission to the New Jersey, California or New York state bar (clean disciplinary record required).
  • 10+ years of civil litigation experience, preferably with in-house or leadership roles in multinational corporations.
  • Proven expertise in product liability, commercial disputes, and/or regulatory investigations; experience with CPSC, ITC, or trade litigation is a plus.
  • Chinese language proficiency (Mandarin) is highly desirable to facilitate collaboration with Midea Group.
  • Exceptional research, writing, and analytical skills; ability to distill complex legal issues for business leaders.
  • Strong organizational skills, discretion with sensitive information, and a service-oriented mindset.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in trade compliance (anti-dumping, customs) or IP litigation.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, consumer appliances, or HVAC industries.

Work Environment & Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of desk work and computer use.
  • Occasional travel to courts, clients, or Midea Group offices (domestic/international).
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
