The counsel will provide end-to-end support to operations business of the Global Specialty Fulfillment network.

Key job responsibilities

You will serve as the primary lawyer responsible for counseling the business on legal documentation and compliances (food safety, labor laws, and other applicable regulations). You will streamline and optimize processes including for identifying vendors/ third-party operators and assisting with legal issues in day-to-day operations at the site, develop strategies to mitigate risks with third-party operators, contract with store operators and hub operators, and partner with our in-house teams on engaging last-mile delivery partners, engaging with and responding to regulators like legal metrology, FSSAI, BIS and dealing with law enforcement, helping business prevent losses. Additionally, you will be expected to stay updated on relevant laws and regulations affecting the industry and protect Amazon?s intellectual property rights.

A day in the life

You will work directly with the business, serving as their primary counsel on strategic deals, providing day-to-day advice, resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and dealing with diverse stakeholders including tax, finance, public relations, labour & employment, litigation, and public policy teams, dealing with multiple regulatory bodies and engagement with law enforcement agencies in their investigations.

About the team

The candidate will be part of a dynamic team of lawyers supporting various Operations and Compliance businesses in India and will be based out of our office in Bangalore. This position reports to the Country Lead Counsel ? India, Operations and Compliances.

Basic Qualifications

Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university or law school with license to practice law in India or other common law jurisdiction

A minimum 4+ years of legal experience

Must be proactive, enthusiastic, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, and able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

Strong written and oral communication skills
