Description

The District Attorney?s Office of the Eastern Judicial Circuit has Assistant District Attorney I-IV openings. We encourage those who meet the minimum qualifications to apply.
May be hired as Assistant District Attorney I-IV, based on Experience Level. Salary commensurate with Qualifications and Experience Level.

Examples of Duties

  • Performs professional legal work in the evaluation, processing, and prosecution of criminal cases to fair and just disposition in the State court system.
  • Supervises assigned administrative support personnel.
  • Reviews reports submitted by law enforcement to determine whether further investigation is needed, approves or returns cases for more work, researches alternative crimes, and researches case law.
  • Drafts accusations and indictments, evaluates and researches potential defenses, negotiates pleas to dispose of cases, and uses discretion in dismissing cases not prosecutable.
  • Develops a trial strategy for cases and presents cases to the Grand Jury, questions witnesses, answers juror?s questions, determines sentence recommendations, calls arraignment calendars, and attends pre-trial conferences with Judges and Defense Attorneys.
  • Subpoenas witnesses for motions, researches and argues all pre-trial and post-trial motions, files motions timely, and complies with discovery requirements by copying and mailing documents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in the State of Georgia.
  • Must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia and be admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Georgia Court of Appeals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Possess a thorough understanding of laws and court procedures of State and Federal legislation and case law regarding criminal law and procedure.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of Georgia rules of Evidence, State and Federal case precedents, criminal trial practice, and ethical considerations and disciplinary rules.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of State and local ordinance violations, misdemeanors, felonies, and legal research principles, materials, methods, and practices.
  • Possess the ability to analyze and present complex legal issues, facts, evidence, and precedence in an orderly fashion.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team setting when needed.


During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.


In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.


Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.
