Job Description


Performs attorney work for the Child Support Division. Work involves representing the state's interest in judicial and administrative matters, and providing legal advice, consultation and technical assistance to the Child Support Program

Responsibilities and Duties

Represent the State of Texas in legal proceedings to locate, establish, enforce, modify or terminate court orders for child support and medical support. Represents the State of Texas in administrative hearings. Provides legal advice, consultation and technical assistance to the Child Support Program. Develops and delivers training. Performs related work as assigned. Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions. Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information. Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.

Required Skills:

  • One year' experience in handling Family Law cases
  • Experience in handling a high-volume legal practice
  • Other language: Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak Spanish

  • Preparing sound opinions, conducting investigations and performing legal research
  • Using a person computer for word-processing and date entry/retrieval
  • Handling multiple tasks, prioritising, and meeting deadlines

  • Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback

  • Ability to work 40 hours and in compliance with FLSA
  • Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs. Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 25%

Required Education:

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas Knowledge of Family Law and the Texas Penal Code
