We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated student counselor to join our educational department. This role involves supporting students' emotional and professional growth, creating and overseeing counseling support programs, and providing guidance on educational and career paths.
To be successful in this role, you should have patience and empathy for the challenges students face. The ideal student counselor is socially perceptive, gently persuasive, and able to create a safe and secure environment for students.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Listen to students' academic, emotional, social, and behavioral concerns without judgment.
- Work directly with students to find solutions and set achievable goals.
- Help resolve conflicts between students, students and teachers, or parents and teachers to ensure students can focus on their goals.
- Provide individual career guidance and skills assessment to help students plan for their future careers.
- Assist students with college admissions applications and test preparation.
- Give students resources related to their desired career or provide career counseling based on their skills.
- Create, oversee, and assist with counseling programs.
- Refer students to outside resources for mental health, substance abuse, or vocational-related activities.
- Report any suspected neglect or abuse to the appropriate authorities.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's or associate's degree in counseling.
- Master's degree in counseling is preferred.
- At least 2 years of professional counseling experience, preferably in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of career assessments and placement testing.
- Familiarity with counseling principles, techniques, and practices for students.
- Strong active listening and communication skills.
- Patient, friendly, and accommodating personality.
