Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented mail sorter to organize and process incoming and outgoing mail for our company. In this role, you will receive incoming mail, check packages, and prepare mail for distribution. You will also operate mail processing machines and manage the inventory of the mailroom.

To be successful as a mail sorter, you should be good with your hands and enjoy working with machines. You should also be highly organized and pay close attention to detail.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming mail bins and sort mail into trays for processing.
  • Check dates, addresses, barcodes, and other postage information for all outgoing mail.
  • Inspect mail for tampering, damage, and suspicious contents.
  • Sort and categorize mail by hand and use mail processing machines and postage meters.
  • Prepare mail for distribution by labeling and categorizing correctly.
  • Redirect mislabeled or illegible mail for returns.
  • Scan packages for tracking, update mail database records, and log information.
  • Maintain mail processing machines and equipment.
  • Report any issues with mail or machinery to the supervisor.
  • Monitor inventory levels and inform supervisors when supplies are low.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in a mailroom is preferred.
  • Knowledge of mail processing machines and equipment, such as mail meters.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in programs like MS Word and Excel.
