Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Come up with ideas for articles for the writing staff to work on.
- Manage the writing staff and people who create content for the magazine.
- Approve the content, look, and layout of featured articles.
- Oversee the photography, design, and artwork used in the magazine.
- Meet with writers and artists to talk about articles, layouts, and artwork.
- Follow media laws and industry rules.
- Give writers regular instructions on deadlines, style, and pay for their work.
- Attend industry events to make connections.
- Ask the writing staff and people who create content to write articles for the magazine.
- Check and edit articles to make sure they are good enough to be in the magazine.
- Go to photo shoots.
- Promote the magazine and make it more well-known.
- Help everyone on the team finish their work on time.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A college degree in communications, journalism, or a related field (required).
- At least 3 years of experience working as a magazine editor.
- Experience creating content that appeals to the target audience.
- Strong writing, editing, and people skills.
- Good at building relationships with important people in the magazine industry.
- Able to think carefully and do research.
- Know how to use a Content Management System (CMS).
- A natural leader who makes good decisions and pays attention to details.
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Can work alone or with a team.
- Great at negotiating.
- Able to understand and connect with the target audience.
