What does a Clinical Supervisor do?

A clinical supervisor is someone who oversees counselors and psychologists in order to optimize treatments for clients. They are responsible for hiring and leading top-quality practitioners, as well as overseeing the treatment process for clients. This position may also be referred to as a clinical director or clinical manager.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a strategic clinical supervisor to join our team and help us provide the best possible treatments for our clients. The main responsibilities of this role include having regular meetings with staff to discuss treatments and professional issues, guiding practitioners in assessing clients' mental health, developing suitable treatments, and making referrals. The clinical supervisor will also be responsible for selecting, training, evaluating, disciplining, and motivating staff, as well as ensuring the quality of clinical documentation at all times.

In order to excel in this role, strong leadership skills and the ability to make sound decisions are essential. The ideal candidate will be organized, knowledgeable, and an excellent communicator.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting regular meetings with the governing board, department heads, and practitioners
  • Overseeing and reviewing practitioners' work procedures
  • Counseling, motivating, and disciplining practitioners, and referring advanced issues to upper management
  • Conducting performance reviews
  • Ensuring practitioners comply with licensure and registration requirements
  • Ensuring compliance, accuracy, and quality of clinical documentation
  • Assisting practitioners by supervising complex cases
  • Enhancing operations by ensuring sufficient staffing and adequate access to services
  • Developing programs and ensuring compliance with procedures and policies

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in psychology or a related field
  • Appropriate licensure
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in a similar role
  • Proficiency with MS Office Word and Excel
  • Valid driver?s license
  • Strong knowledge of supervision, service delivery, and case management fundamentals
  • Thorough understanding of applicable laws
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
