MRI Technologist - Manhattan Beach BCO MRI - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)

As an integral part of the Imaging Services Team, the Magnetic Resonance Technologist provides support for the radiologists by performing highly specialized MRI studies in the MRI department and the Operating Room. Provides related work as required.The MRI technologist performs basic and complex MR imaging procedures and may be assigned post-processing responsibilities. The MRI technologist must demonstrate an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology. The candidate must maintain a high degree of accuracy in participant positioning and image acquisition/formation. He/she must maintain knowledge about magnetic field safety and properly screen all participants and visitors prior to admittance into the MR magnet room. The technologists prepares and administers paramagnetic contrast media in accordance with department policy, and state and federal regulations, maintaining accurate up-to-date records of procedures performed; ensuring accurate processing of radiology orders and exercises strict confidentiality.

Essential Duties:

• Performs MRI procedures proficiently, accounting for variation in patients' conditions, ages and ability to cooperate.
• Performs formatting, archiving, and remove command.
• Maintains equipment in good operating condition and reports malfunctions, maladjustments or necessary repairs.
• Performs quality control procedures and/or assists Director of Medical imaging and Radiologists in quality management.
• Demonstrates knowledge of principles of MRI physics and computer science related to MRI scanning.
• Demonstrates complete working knowledge of imaging equipment and computer software necessary to perform studies. Calibrates imaging systems periodically as required (i.e., tube warm-up).
• Demonstrates correct and adequate cross-sectional anatomic positioning skills.
• Selects appropriate MRI scanning technique/equipment and determines the most suitable anatomical posture and positions. Procedures are planned and executed considering physiologic and developmental age. Serves ages pediatric through geriatric.
• Reviews examination for proper positioning, technique and identification as per approved protocols.
• Confirms patient identification by verifying name and birthdate.
• Reviews patient questionnaire, doctor's order and requisition for physician notes and/or special instructions, reviews with radiologist and patient if necessary, to assure safety and appropriateness.
• Recognizes emergency situations, indicate code and properly administer aid as needed.
• Performs visual inspections, selects appropriate equipment and applies immobilization devices as required.
• Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination to patient and instruments.
• Records pertinent patient information and completes all paperwork as required and assists in maintaining files. Performs billing functions timely and accurately.
• Prepares examination for interpretation by radiologist. Scans supporting documentation into PACS.
• Keeps MRI scan rooms/work stations neat, orderly, and prepared and assures exam room is stocked with appropriate supplies. Assists with ordering and stocking of department supplies and equipment.
• Willingly performs other related duties outside immediate work area as assigned or required (i.e., scheduling, Q.C. follow-up, transport, clerical).
• Exhibits organizational skills and utilizes time efficiently.

• Assist in maintaining an atmosphere of cooperation with other departments, medical staff and fellow employees.
• Acts as a mentor to and is a source of information for less experienced Radiology Technologist.

• Uses the chain of command appropriately to communicate any concerns with the department, co-workers or medical staff.
• Responsible for work schedule hours if any changes were made. Demonstrates computer science knowledge and principles related to any other modalities (CT, MRI or X-ray) and films according to approved protocols.
• Ensures that intraoperative safety measures and policy is followed when performing MRI procedures in the Operating Room.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:.

• Req High School or equivalent
• Req Specialized/technical training Graduate of an approved MRI Technology school/Program.
• Req 1 year Experience as an MRI technologist.
• Req Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
• Req Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Pref Certified Radiologic Technologist (CA DPH) CA Certified Radiologic Technologist License

Required Licenses/Certifications:

• Req American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ARRT) or ARMRIT Certification
• Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
• Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The hourly rate range for this position is $46.00 - $76.07.
